LATEST: This alert has been included by the Australian Government StaySmartOnline initiative with a high priority. You can also read the developments which lead to our alert in this news story.
In October last year, we blogged about our fraud alert service – an added layer of protection for Pocketbook users. There’s a new global fraud that’s currently unfolding and we have seen our users affected. You should be aware too.
Our Latest Alert
The latest alert – Fraud Alert – Taiwanese Payment Company (FA-140217A) affects credit card charges from a Taiwanese payments provider Neweb Technologies. This is possibly due to you using your card while on holiday in Asia or having purchased from an Asian online merchant. The credit card may be charged by “Neweb Technologies” or variants (e.g.: Neweb Technologies Taiwan, Neweb, Neweb Tech). This is an unfolding story in Singapore, China and right across Asia – with two major Singaporean banks already blocking transactions from Neweb by default. The charge is typically for TWD1,150 which equates to around AUD$42-48 depending on the exchange rate and the foreign exchange processing charge.
In our alert, we recommend Pocketbook users review the case in detail and contact their bank at the earliest convenience if it affects them.
To make sure we get your attention, we’ll send you an email if you’re affected as well, so you don’t miss it.

You can read more about the case here.
A special thank you to our user Juan who assisted in our investigations.
