Happy Monday!
In any given week, roughly 60% of our users get a Safely Spend notification to tell them they’re close to overspending or have overspent. So here are 5 practical tips to save $50.
1. Pack your own lunch
Prices for weekday lunches have gone through the roof. A daily cost of $10-$15 no longer raises an eyebrow. Meanwhile, bag of bread rolls, chicken breast and salad mix from Woolies can cost as little as $15 for the entire week.
Pro-tip: Crisp up some prosciutto in the oven and add it to your chicken sandwich for that gourmet cafe taste.
2. Wait for the sale
You may like to wonder the department store during your lunch hour. It’s really quite easy to be tempted and pick up an item here or there for $50. This week, when you get the urge, why not pause and think about waiting for the next sale.
Pro-tip: Subscribe to sites like Gilt.com or MyHabit.com for sales without even leaving your desk.
3. Take public transport
Public transport is one of the easiest ways to cut down costs. Leave the car at home for the daily commute or catch the nightride on Friday night instead of the cab. Carpooling with friend and colleagues is another option.
Pro-tip: Buy a quarterly ticket to save even more.
4. Staying in fun
Movies and dinners might be easy for a family night, but try staying in and organising a board game night. Perhaps use Menulog to order some takeaway.
Pro-tip: Make some popcorn and put on a DVD whilst playing, so no one misses a beat.
5. Learn a recipe
Better yet, instead of ordering takeaway, learn to make your favourite takeaway at home. There are plenty of recipes on YouTube with step-by-step instructions.
Pro-tip: Every Monday, Perth based Niko’s Kitchen has recipes for the budget conscious.
6. Sell something
Finally, if you get stuck at making cuts, you can always sell something. Look through your wardrobe and draws, you’re bound to find an old phone, a jacket from last season or an old fishing rod. Someone else will want your trash.
Pro-tip: Read my last post on maximising eBay selling prices.
